Household food security remains a challenge in rural Nigeria due to poverty, climate variability and limited resources. This study examined women’s empowerment and household food security in Oyo and Osun States. A multi-stage procedure selected 294 rural women. Data were collected using a structured interview schedule and analysed using weighted mean scores and Pearson correlation. Social empowerment ranked highest (WMS = 2.47), while agricultural and agribusiness training was a major source of empowerment (60.9%). About 49.0% were moderately food secure. Significant relationships existed between food security and women’s empowerment (p < 0.05), with psychological empowerment showing the strongest relationship (r = 0.572). Integrated empowerment programmes are recommended to improve food security.
