RELATIONSHIP OF AGRICULTURAL EXTENSION PROGRAMS AND RURAL DEVELOPMENT IN IJEBU NORTH LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA, OGUN STATE, NIGERIA

This study examined the effect of agricultural extension programs on rural development in Ijebu North Local Government Area of Ogun State, Nigeria. multistage sampling technique was used to select farmers from four major communities. Descriptive statistics were employed to address the study objectives, while logistic regression analysis was used to determine the influence of extension programs on rural development outcomes. The results showed that 75% of the respondents had participated in agricultural extension programs. Participation in extension activities was found to significantly enhance agricultural productivity, improve farmers’ knowledge of modern farming techniques, and strengthen capacity building. The study further shows that extension programs had influence on rural development outcomes (p = 0.003). However, the effectiveness of these programs was constrained by inadequate funding, limited coverage, and poor rural infrastructure.
